I am pretty excited for 2013......I feel incredibly lucky to have an amazing job that I go to every day and want to go back for more. Teaching is both a passion and obsession for me. As I reflect on 2012, something happened to me as a teacher...and it is hard to even explain in words....it is more of a feeling. I have this intense feeling of purpose when I am in the building.....this "every minute counts" kind of feeling. It is the coolest thing in the world when you see kids walk into the building and I know that some, like me, have that feeling when they walk into our building too. I can see it on their faces and when they ask as soon as they come in the door, "What are we learning about today?" It really is quite amazing. I am so proud to work at RVS. Along with this feeling, these are some things that I learned and I kept in the back of my mind in 2012:
1. Treat Everyone Well
2. Be Positive
3. Be Mindful of People's Needs
4. Celebrate Classroom Success (OFTEN)
5. Set Goals
6. Reflect (OFTEN)
7. Take the Path Less Travelled
8. Focus on What is Really Important (Don't sweat the small stuff)
9. Laugh (OFTEN)
10. Collaboration is a Powerful Tool (for students and teachers)
11. Make Mistakes, Learn from Them, Try Again
12. Teach Outside the Box, Take Risks, Try New Things
13. Slow Down
Before holiday break, one student came up to me and said, "Mrs. Collette....time is going by too fast, it'll be January when we come back." Time has gone by way too fast. I can hardly believe it is January of 2013 already. As I drove down highway 75 on the way to Dominion City on January 2nd, 2013....I still had that intense feeling from December...that "every minute counts" feeling. It is an amazing feeling when you know you picked the right profession.
